Tools to support real transformation

AI-ADU is more than a conversation about artificial intelligence – it’s a practical initiative with concrete outcomes. Our results are designed to help adult education professionals and institutions build confidence, gain skills, and integrate AI in ways that are meaningful, inclusive, and sustainable.

Our approach

Our approach is grounded in the belief that AI should support – not overwhelm – educators and staff. That’s why we focus on making tools and training accessible, practical and relevant to real-life challenges in adult learning.

The project brings together partners from across Europe to co-create a suite of resources: from a clear competency framework to a blended learning programme and actionable guidelines. Each result builds on the other, forming a comprehensive support system that empowers adult educators and admin staff to make informed, responsible use of AI in their daily work.

what matters

Framework

We have developed a clear AI Competency Framework tailored to the realities of adult education. It defines the essential knowledge, skills, and attitudes needed to lead digital transformation.

knowledge into action

Upskilling

Our blended learning programme combines online modules with in-person workshops, helping adult education staff apply AI in teaching, communication and institutional processes.

network

Networks

We’re building a network – bringing together educators, administrative staff and digital specialists to share experiences, tools and strategies for responsible AI use.

framework

AI Competency Framework

This framework outlines the essential knowledge, skills and attitudes that adult education professionals need to lead and support digital transformation with the help of AI. It includes specific roles for both educators and administrative staff and is aligned with key European policy documents such as DigComp 2.2 and the AI Act.

Designed to be both strategic and practical, the framework can be used for planning staff development, creating job profiles, and guiding organisational change.

blended learning programme

Blended Learning Programme

This flexible training programme supports adult educators and staff in developing hands-on AI skills that are relevant to their everyday roles. It combines interactive online modules with face-to-face workshops hosted by project partners across Europe.

The programme introduces practical ways to apply AI in teaching, learner communication, and institutional tasks – from lesson planning to workflow automation. It is designed to meet professionals where they are, offering pathways for exploration, upskilling and peer exchange.

peer network

 AI-ADU Peer Network

As part of the project’s sustainability strategy, AI-ADU creates spaces for adult education professionals and organisations to exchange ideas, share experiences, and stay informed about the evolving role of AI in education.

This includes interactive webinars, live discussion events, piloting feedback opportunities and an open-access online platform hosting all project resources. These channels aims to foster informal peer learning while supporting wider outreach and long-term impact beyond the project duration.

What people say

There’s a lot of pressure to ‘go digital,’ but very little guidance on what that actually means for day-to-day work. This project feels like a real opportunity to rethink how we use technology - without losing emphasis on people.

— Panayiotis, Cyprus

I believe AI-ADU can give educators the clarity and confidence we’ve been missing around AI. It’s not about becoming tech experts - it’s about making smarter, but more informed choices in how we teach and support adult learners.

— Viktorija, Lithuania

I’m not someone who usually feels comfortable with tech, especially AI. But I see potential in this project to support people like me. It’s not about replacing people- it’s about giving us tools to do our jobs better.

— Paola, Italy
