Lesson 1. AI Leadership and Advocacy in Adult Education

Reflection task: Identify one AI leadership need in your organisation

Think about your own practice,  your teams or organisations. Choose one area where AI is already being used, or could soon be used. Examples:

• – staff using AI individually without shared guidance;
• – educators experimenting with AI in teaching;
• – administrative staff using AI to draft communication;
• – learners asking whether they can use AI in assignments;
• – managers considering a new AI tool;
• – staff feeling anxious or resistant towards AI.

Step 1: Describe the situation

Write short answers:

• – What is happening, or what could happen soon?
• – Who is involved? (For example: educators, administrative staff, learners, managers,  project staff, etc.)
• – What is the possible benefit of using AI here?
• – What is the main concern or uncertainty?
• – What support or guidance is currently missing?

Step 2: Identify the leadership need

Based on your answers, choose the main need:

Step 3: Choose one small action

Choose one realistic first action that could help. Examples:

• – organise a short team discussion about current AI use;
• – collect staff questions about AI;
• – share one responsible AI use example with colleagues;
• – ask management whether approved AI tools exist;
• – suggest a short AI guidance note for learners;
• – identify one low-risk AI use case to test with staff;
• – invite colleagues to share concerns before choosing tools.
